Who's "in charge" of the U.S. Senate?

Are you kidding us?!?! Palin, you are not in charge of ANY legislative branch. You are not, according to the Constitution, (You know, that thing you'd have to swear to uphold and defend) a part of the legislative branch. You are sort of ceremoniously the president of the Senate. But your ONLY job is to vote in the event of a tie in the Senate.

Oh my. People, this lady is not that far away from going to Washington and helping to lead our country. That scares me to death. Please, vote. Tell all of your friends and family to vote. Anyone but McPalin.

You know; I thought Bush was sort of.....um......not smart. But this lady takes the whole stupid cake.

Ok Wade, now this is just you on a liberal socialist rant. Give the poor lady a break, these are some hard questions that 2nd graders are asking these days.

Just kidding. Doesn't her party have someone who's job it is to clue her in on things like this? If not, maybe they should have looked into that.

It's quite scary that she is John McCain's choice for VP. But what does it say about nearly half of all voters who think she's perfect for the job? That little tidbit just might be the scariest thing of all.

I wish we could be in the same room discussing these things because I bet everyone would moderate their views a lot more.

Palin was basically saying that she is the president of the senate in a more descriptive way. Do you really think she (or Joe Biden for that matter) would have described it the way you did? Yeah....I can just hear her answering 3rd Grader Brandon Garcia's question: I am not, according to the Constitution, ...a part of the legislative branch. I am sort of ceremoniously the president of the Senate. But my ONLY job is to vote in the event of a tie in the Senate. And that, Brandon, is all I do as the Vice President. Oh and I almost forgot, I also just sort of wait around in case the President dies." She was just trying to fancy up her potential job description. Something I am sure everyone has done from time to time. I mean really....

This basically boils down to my team is better than everyone else's. Rah! Rah! Rah! gooooooo team! We got spirit yes we do we got spirit how bout you?! Yay for cheerleading!

Joel, come on. It's not like this is the first time she's been wrong about this type of question. If you think she's more intelligent than this, that's great. But I think she's proven time and time again that she's not the sharpest tool in the shed. And, she's not really a constitution buff. Her political knowledge is limited to the goings on in Wasilla and in Alaska.

First of all, I think we would both agree, that we agree more than we disagree generally. Secondly, I will admit that if McCain won and then died while in office, and Palin became president, I would be very concerned.

With that out of the way I think that part of the reason you have really jumped on the Palin is so stupid band wagon is because you are a little sad that you won't have Bush around anymore, and she is the next best thing. But frankly all these attacks on Palin's intellect are in my opinion along the same lines as the GOP endlessly talking about Obama's intimate relationship with Bill Ayers. That is the only thing that bugs me here. I am totally cool with how much you really love Obama. I can't help but like Obama when I hear him speak. He is so much more positive than McCain and he does inspire my confidence a lot more than McCain. The only thing I am really worried about with him is his appointment of supreme court justices and the potential effect he might have on second amendment issues and abortion issues.

So anyway, I just dislike the extreme partisanship. I will admit that I have been negative about politics in general but I justify that by being an equal opportunity hater. I suppose extreme partisanship is just a pet peeve of mine. I'm not in love with Palin or anything but when I hear a relentless attack on any candidate I feel compelled to defend their point of view.

I don't think this video is an example of her being dumb. More like naive. Naive does not equal dumb. I think if you were totally honest you would have to admit Palin is actually a pretty sharp lady. I also would wager that if she had spent as much time as Obama, McCain, or Biden has in national politics she would be as smart or smarter than any of them when it comes to the specialized knowledge they have. At this point I think she is just trying to learn a great amount of info at a blistering rate.

The other problem is, there is a great amount of pressure for her to know everything, and the truth is she just doesn't. Far from it. But because of the pressure she pretends that she does. She has said and done some embarrassing things so far but considering her lack of experience I am really impressed with how far she has come in a short amount of time. I also like her appearance on SNL (did you see that?). It showed she is tough but at the same time has at least a sense of humor about herself.

I would also like to point out that the two main interviews that made her look stupid were with Charles Gibson and Katie Couric. Those news organizations have an interest in making her look stupid. Just like Fox would have an interest in making her look smart. Although she didn't "win" the vp debate in my opinion, I thought she did very well considering my expectations. I think you admitted she did better than expected too, if I remember right. My point is, I think Palin has the right attitude to learn what she needs to. I also think she is definitely not a stupid lady. Naive at this point? Yes, but that won't last long.

So, if I was taking a test; Say, in American Heritage from Lyndon W. Cook, and on the question of the role of vice-president, and I gave the same answer Palin did, Dr. Cook wouldn't mark my answer wrong? Instead, it would be marked naive? What, do I get half-credit for it or something? And, more important, she isn't some college kid getting an answer wrong on her exams. She's running for VP of the U.S. That's serious business. She doesn't get let off for being naive. My opinion that she is dumb and therefore not qualified stands. And no, I didn't just jump on the hate Palin bandwagon because I'll miss Bush. I take exception to that because you're now questioning my intellect and my character. Does it bother you that we agree on most things? Because you're so quick to defend the things I might speak "non-positively" about. (Yeah, that's not proper grammar). Sometimes I wonder if you're really just trying to create differences, just for the crap of it. Thing is, if Palin was just some Jane off the street, her answers wouldn't surprise me. But a governor of a whole state and a candidate for one step away from the presidency of the most powerful nation in the world gets held to a higher standard in my book. I'm fairly political and I know the answers to the questions she misses. And I'm FAR LESS politically involved than she is. On this one, we're just going to have to agree to disagree. By the way, has Obama said ANYTHING to make you scared that he'll take away your gun rights or do anything to change our current abortion laws?

Touché my friend touché, and yes, you are right, I do argue just for the sake of arguing occasionally.

Wade The Rascal said...

Did you just say "my friend," because you like how McCain always does?

Joel said...

No. I said "my friend" because we actually are friends.
